Through Many Dangers

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
                                                                                                                            – Isaiah 43:2

Can you imagine going through heavy waters, dirty rivers or turbulent seas wondering if you would ever come to dry land again? Have you ever been so swamped by one calamity after another that it seems as if you are literally dying and that God has most definitely forgotten you?

You experience the seas of despair, the heavy waters of pain and anguish, the fire of trials and testing all at the same time. Welcome to the reality of Christian life as stated in the Word of God, not as preached from many pulpits today. The message conveyed to many believers today in Christendom is that life as a believer is a smooth ride because you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.

The reality, however, is different. Neither Jesus nor his disciples had a life of continual bliss or one that was void of trouble. The servant is not greater than the Master, says the Bible. If they persecuted me they would also persecute you, warned Jesus as He conversed with his disciples.

It is not if we go through many dangers, many trials, many persecutions, and many testing. It is a matter of when. What is comforting to know, however, is that the Lord, who is on our side, will deliver us out of them all in His good time.
