How Do I Forgive Others?

“Forgiving is a challenge but not an impossibility.”
God would not ask us to do something that we absolutely could not do. He has asked us to forgive those who have hurt us, and He has shown us the way to do it.
When Jesus’ disciple Peter asked Him how many times he should forgive those who sinned against him, Jesus replied, “I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven”(Matthew 18:22) We have been extended great mercy by Jesus Christ, and our sin cost Him His life. There is nothing in this life that can be done to us to compare to the suffering Jesus Christ endured, and so we must forgive.
I encourage you today to take the necessary steps to forgive others. You can overcome the blockage of forgiveness by following these steps:
1. Admit that you are hurting. In our society, it is taboo to admit that you are in emotional pain. If you admit that you have been hurt, you are “unable to control” your life and are not strong enough to survive in this world. Until you identify how you feel, you cannot start to heal from it.
Admit that you are hurting, but do not stay in the place of your hurt.
